I want to talk to you about how normal is sometimes extraordinary, but first let me introduce you to a big guy.
He’s big because he’s over six feet tall, but that’s the least of it.
I met this Irishman playing pool. It’s one of my passions next to golf.
You see: putting balls in holes.
I’ve been playing both disciplines for over 45 years and you can’t tell.
I like both but I don’t stand out. What’s more, I think I’m getting worse and worse at it.
But I was getting to the point.
We both met in the same bar in Zaragoza, the Drinks & Pool. The name says it all.
At that time, I used to go there with my great friend Luis, who I’ll tell you about another day. The most cultured guy I know.
I almost always beat him, but that didn’t stop us from spending great nights together where pool wasn’t the most important thing.
I, as a good obsessive, wanted to play for hours and hours to improve, but of course Luis wasn’t that interested.
One day a big guy who was playing and doing very well caught our attention. We were surprised how his height was not a limitation for him to bend down a lot while playing (the more you bend down, the better you aim).
A few beers in, we struck up a conversation with the Irishman.
He was an English teacher and married to a maña.
We hit it off.
We kept seeing each other and there came a time when we thought about teaming up. He and I.
Luis breathed a sigh of relief from his generous obligation to me.
We played in the league the following year. We had a great time and continued to do so.
As we got to know each other better, one day I asked him:
You hardly knew me when you asked me to join your team, why?
And he replied: “Because you are normal”
He was referring to the difficulty of finding someone like me, a normal, funny and extremely cultured guy.
The world of pool is very special. There are very rare people. It’s a world that, fortunately, has already got rid of that aura of a night-time slum with dangerous people, smoke and gambling.
However, it is not usual to find someone with no pretensions of anything and who is entertaining.
In the real estate business, believe it or not, similarities can be found.
Everyone seems to be shining and doing well.
Showing off with arrogance is very common.
That’s why, when you meet normal people, it’s appreciated.
Everything flows naturally, and yes, you can also do exceptional things and business without resorting to ridiculous attitudes.
Nowadays, meeting normal professionals is becoming less and less frequent.
If you want to stand out without saying so, making your marketing stand out effortlessly, I offer you the opportunity to help you. I’m very normal but frankly good at what I do. Like pool.
